Haji Muhammad Rafique was a visionary entrepreneur, respected businessman, and one of the pioneering figures behind the foundation of the group’s industrial legacy. His journey began from humble roots, where he successfully operated multiple general stores and trading businesses through hard work, integrity, and determination. With a sharp business mindset and an unwavering commitment to growth, he laid the foundation for what would later become one of Pakistan’s most recognized industrial groups.

In 1963, Haji Muhammad Rafique took a historic step by acquiring and establishing Hamza Sugar Mills in Rahim Yar Khan — one of the earliest and most important companies of the group. From the very beginning, he believed in family unity and collective leadership, bringing together his brothers, Haji Muhammad Saleem, Haji Nisar Ahmed, and Haji Riaz Ahmed, as members of the Board of Directors. Under their shared vision, the company steadily expanded and strengthened its reputation within Pakistan’s sugar industry.

Haji Muhammad Rafique was admired not only for his business acumen but also for his simplicity, leadership, and deep commitment to his family, employees, and values. His principles of trust, resilience, and long-term vision became the foundation upon which the group continued to grow for generations.

Following the demise of Haji Muhammad Rafique and later Haji Muhammad Saleem, the responsibility of leading the company was carried forward by Haji Nisar Ahmed, who successfully led Hamza Sugar Mills from 1998 to 2017. Under his leadership, Hamza Sugar Mills became the largest sugar mill in Pakistan and, by the time of his demise in December 2017, one of the largest sugar mills in Asia.

Afterwards, the legacy of Haji Muhammad Rafique was proudly carried forward by his son, Muhammad Tayyab, who assumed the role of Chairman of the Board and took charge of the operations of Hamza Sugar Mills. Continuing the vision established by his father decades earlier, he remained committed to strengthening and expanding the group’s industrial presence while preserving the values upon which it was founded.

The story of Haji Muhammad Rafique is not merely the story of a businessman — it is the story of determination, family unity, leadership, and the creation of a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.
